When is a bottle rinser not suitable?

A bottle rinser is not suitable when the required result cannot be reached by its proven air, water, inversion and extraction process.

Reject the rinser option when the duty exceeds a rinse-before-fill process.

A bottle rinser is usually intended to prepare empty containers by removing a defined loose contamination or residue. It is not the correct route when bottles carry adhered soil, labels, glue, biofilm, heavy external contamination or an unknown condition that cannot be verified by a representative trial.

It is also unsuitable as a substitute for a validated sanitising or sterilising process. Where the bottle has been returned, previously filled or exposed to a higher-risk environment, the project may need a full washing assessment and separate hygiene validation.

Decision rule: select the process that can prove the required outgoing bottle condition. Do not stretch a simpler machine label to cover an unsupported duty.

  1. Identify the worst incoming bottle. Include actual production contamination, not only clean presentation samples.
  2. State the non-negotiable result. Separate particulate, soil, moisture and microbiological requirements.
  3. Trial the proposed route. Record the bottle, settings, utilities, inspection method and failures.
  4. Review downstream consequences. Check recontamination, drainage, product contact, coding and labelling.
  5. Stop if the boundary is unclear. Obtain the necessary washing, hygiene or process advice before committing to a rinser.
