A post-rinse inspection can range from a documented manual sample check to an automated empty-bottle inspection system. The appropriate method depends on what must be detected, the bottle material and colour, the neck and base geometry, production speed, the consequence of a missed defect and the user's quality system. A clear glass bottle under controlled lighting is a different inspection task from an opaque HDPE container or a deeply shouldered bottle.

The inspection plan should separate the ability to see a condition from the ability to remove the affected bottle. A camera or operator may identify a problem, but the line must also have a controlled stop, reject or quarantine response. The status of bottles held between the rinser and filler after a fault must be defined so that unverified containers are not released by accident.

Confirm the reject

Where an automatic reject is used, confirm that the selected bottle was removed and that the reject container cannot return to production unnoticed.

Protect the handover

Define the maximum number of bottles between the rinse/inspection decision and the filler so the affected batch can be contained after a fault.

Retain useful records

Record format, settings, inspection result, alarm and intervention information at the level required by the user's quality system.
